Patina Paint with Copper Accents on Wood

PATINA WOOD COPPER FINISH// In this video I experiment with using patina on wood with copper finish accents. My goal was to add some shiny accents to a distressed piece of wood painted with MiniWax Dark Walnut.

I used Ten Seconds Studios VerDay paint in the copper with the patina spray (I’ve listed a similar one here) https://amzn.to/2HSFBts.

Step 1: I used a throw away cloth to put a small dot of the copper paint on it and gently and lightly wiped in the copper on various levels on my piece. Let it dry.

Step 2. Repeat the process on the same copper portions I previously stained only this time apply the patina spray before it finished drying. My patina extended past where the copper finish was so be mindful the patina expands. It took about 30 minutes to see the full effect. Then let the piece completely dry.

Step 3: In a perfect world you would be done with this project. However, I felt like the patina extended too far into my piece so I went ahead and applied more (Minwax Dark Walnut: https://amzn.to/2KlyAmL) over various areas of the piece again. Let it dry.

Step 4: Once dry I added a few additional copper strokes to make them pop more on the piece.

Paint Metal Pipes Metallic Colors

PAINTING METAL PIPES METALLIC COLORS// In this video I be testing 5 different metallic paints found at your local hardware store on iron pipe commonly used for industrial décor. I use both spray paint and can paint to show the ease of use and end results.

These paints can be applied to any metal objects along with decorative non-metal pieces.

DIY Industrial Closet Makeover

In this video I provide an easy step by step DIY tutorial to create an Industrial Pipe Closet. This is a cheap affordable way to add lots of rustic steampunk character to any closet or storage space. 😉

Step 1: Measure your room – ours was 10’ x 6’. Then mark where your studs are using painters’ tape along the baseboards. This gives you a better idea of how long your shelves should be so you can order wood and pipes.

Step 2: Get a piece of level wood: cut, distress and paint it. We used:

  • #7 Boards 8’ x 9” x 1”
  • # 8 Boards 4’ x 9” x 1”
  • # 4 Boards 18” x 9” x 1”

Step 3: Buy your pipes and fittings to make brackets. We use iron imported ½” pipes and fittings from Supplyhouse.com. I have listed the links and quantities below. Make sure you clean your pipes really well using (acetone, mineral spirits, goo gone) before you assemble and paint them.

Step 4: Attach furniture protectors to the bottom of each bracket under the flange.

In this video I share how you can layer different wood stains to create an awesome rustic blue gray color for: shelves, tables, accent pieces etc. This color is the perfect blend to create a weathered textured barnwood appearance for your woodmaking projects. 😉

Step 1: Get a piece of level wood, cut, and distress it.

Check out these videos I made about finding a level and straight piece of wood and distressing your lumber at home!

Step 2: Stain your piece with one coat of Minwax Dark Walnut Stain https://amzn.to/2KlyAmL . Remember if you have knots in your board to keep those free of stain so use a wet sponge to remove any stain on top of it once done. Let it dry 1 day – or at least a few hours until it is no longer tacky.

Pick a Piece of Level Straight Level Wood

In this video I will teach you 3 Steps to Choose Lumber That's Straight and Level.

Stop at your local hardware store and begin testing wood that meets the needs of your project.

Step 1: "The Eye" test - angle the wood on the ground and use your eye to see if you can find any curves. If it does not appear straight here you do not want to select this piece.

Step 2: "The Foot" test- place the board onto the floor and use your foot to lightly tap on the end. If it wobbles the board is not level so skip this piece of lumber.
